Amid one of the world’s most devastating conflicts, examples of resiliency continue to emerge through community cooperation.
Amid one of the world’s most devastating conflicts, examples of resiliency in Yemen continue to inspire even the most cynical. At the district, village, and community levels, leaders work tirelessly to secure essential resources where they are needed most.
Initiatives to protect families as they relocate to new communities and resolve disputes before they escalate have contributed to the stability of neighborhoods, districts, and governorates despite the broader conflict.
In 2020, United for Peace conducted a Conflict Analysis Training for the staff of the Yemen Peacebuilding Project supporting four communities in Yemen: Al Hudaydah, Ma’rib, Shabwa, and Taiz.
The project produced a preliminary Systemic Conflict Analysis report for Chemonics and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom. Additional interventions and funding opportunities were planned based on this analysis to provide relevant support to these regions.
Supporting communities through long-term initiatives that encourage economic opportunities and social cohesion.
The Iraq Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO) project focuses on strengthening community resilience and promoting long-term economic stability in vulnerable areas affected by conflict.
Through collaboration with local communities, civil society actors, and development organizations, the project supports initiatives that encourage peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and sustainable livelihoods.
The program also works on improving local capacities through training, mentorship, and community engagement activities that address social cohesion and conflict prevention.
By integrating economic opportunities with peacebuilding efforts, the DCEO project contributes to empowering communities and fostering inclusive development across different regions.
